Rooms are designed to allow guests to fully enjoy the surrounding nature. Terraces constructed from local Oya stone extend over lavish forest scenery, while soothing breezes add an exquisite touch to the private outdoor hot spring baths featured in some of our special rooms.

KAI Signature Rooms

KAI Signature Rooms incorporate elements of regional craft cultures in their design. At KAI Kinugawa, all rooms feature ornamentation designed to showcase the area's traditional craft arts, such as Mashiko-yaki pottery and Kurobane indigo dyeing.

Wrapping cloth

In Japan, objects are traditionally carried around in a makeshift bag formed from a sheet of cloth. Guests are invited to use these cloths to carry their belongings around the premises.

Our own brand mattresses have been designed to provide proper support to the body while also being soft enough to sink into, allowing for undisturbed sleep.

Dining

KAI Kinugawa is located in Tochigi, a region of rich mountain soil and beautiful rivers that produce plenty of high-quality vegetables, fruit, and fish. These ingredients are arranged into feasts for the eye and palate, such as a casserole heated by an 800℃ stone.

Dinner

Dinners consist of multi-course kaiseki meals that include visually pleasing dishes made with seasonal ingredients. Guests may choose between standard and special.

Breakfast

A set meal is served in the mornings, with a main dish that pays homage to local culinary culture—finely grated rainbow trout, vegetables, and soy beans cooked in miso.

Hot spring

Both the indoor baths and outdoor baths offer expansive views of forests and gardens that sport different colors throughout the year, from pink cherry blossoms in the spring to vivid greens in the summer, vibrant colors in the fall, and snowscapes in the winter.

Yuagari Lounge

Cold seasonal drinks, local sakes, and popsicles are some of the complimentary refreshments offered at this lounge, which looks out onto a bamboo garden. Guests are invited to cool off here after a bath.

Every KAI establishment offers a selection of free activities designed to introduce guests to Japan's regional cultures. KAI Kinugawa is located in Tochigi, a region of numerous craft arts that have long been staples in the locals' lives. The ryokan is full of contemporary artworks created using these techniques, and guests are encouraged to take these objects in their hands to feel their subtle textures.

Ceramics and music

Every night, the ryokan hosts a concert that showcases the soft sounds produced by flutes, drums, and other instruments custom-made by Mashiko-yaki ceramic artisans.
